Know about Difference between Dementia and Alzheimer's


In Medical term, Dementia is an umbrella term and is not a specific disease. Umbrella term means a group of symptoms that associated with the memory loss, thinking and judgment process. In other terms, various conditions that deteriorate brain function called dementia. On the other hands, Alzheimer's is a specific type of mental illness. The primary symptoms of dementia are memory loss, poor judgment, and difficulty in finding the right words during communications. It is very difficult for any person to complete the multiple task stepwise steps that have dementia. It is a progressive disorder and always affects or declines functioning over time. This condition is mostly experienced by people because of brain damage. And there are many conditions that affect neurological health and prevent brain to work properly. Alzheimer's is one of the conditions that increase the risk of dementia.

Most of the signs and symptoms of both medical conditions are the same. But Dementia is a group of symptoms of the disease.  Whereas Alzheimer's is a disease responsible for the lack of brain function. More than 50 percent of cases of dementia are associated with Alzheimer's.

How Alzheimer's differ from Dementia in symptoms
It is never easy to understand both the conditions with their symptoms. Because symptoms of both these condition can overlap. But still there are few points, or you can say symptoms that will help you.  Both medical conditions affect the ability to think, memory and communication. But Alzheimer's symptoms include depression, behavioral change, confusion and impair judgment.

Treatment of Dementia and Alzheimer's
Dementia treatment is available in a few cases, depend upon the conditions that cause. Treatment of these conditions may help to control dementia. But in most cases, dementia is not curable. In simple words, if the condition is treatable that cause dementia then you can get rid over it. The treatment of dementia and Alzheimer's can overlap because of similar symptoms.

On the other hand, diagnosis of Alzheimer's is not possible medically but you can control symptoms. You can try medications for behavioral changes like antipsychotics. There are many medications for the memory-related problems in the market but always need a prescription to buy from the store. Fish oil and coconut oil are the home remedies that boost brain function and prevent the risk of mental disorders. Both conditions are associated with the depression, you may try anti-depressant medications.
